Frequently Asked Questions

We’re always open and looking, even midseason, for people to become non-performing members or occasional volunteers. To inquire about how you can offer your time and talents to the Chorus please click here and leave a message for our volunteer coordinator. So even if you're not a singing member of the chorus, we need you and we welcome you to our organization.

While many of our members do read music, many do not. We provide recordings of many of your music parts, so that you can learn by listening. These are available to download from our web site. We encourage you to burn them onto a CD and listen to them over and over in your car as your drive around South Florida. By using the CDs and paying close attention in rehearsals, you should be able to learn all your music. Depending on your musical abilities, the Artistic Director may make specific recommendations about how you can improve your singing or music reading skills. We provide occasional workshops on these subjects, or can help direct you to classes and teachers in the area. We strongly encourage you to learn to read music, and to take private voice lessons. These skills will greatly enhance your experience and enjoyment of singing in the Chorus.

Rehearsal is scheduled for 7:30pm - 10:00pm every Thursday night during concert season at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, located at 3716 Garden Avenue, Miami Beach (just south of Arthur Godfrey Road, one block east of Alton Road). Patrician Hall where we meet is on the second floor of the building behind the church.

No, you don't, so don't stress out. Our door is always open during the start of each season for new performing members. Reading music or other specific musical abilities are not required, although you will be asked to sing something simple for our Artistic Director, Anthony Cabrera, to make sure you can at least carry a tune, and to determine your vocal range. This is called "voice placement" and we all do it. It also gives you a chance to talk to Anthony and ask questions. If you are a returning member you will still need a voice placement if you haven't sung with the chorus for a few years.

Voice placements for our next season begin in August in Patrician Hall at St. Patrick's. Come on August 21 or August 28 between 7 to 8 pm. If you can't make those dates, voice placements will also be held before our regular rehearsals from 6:30 to 7:15 pm during the month of September. Our first rehearsal is Thursday, September 4, at 7:30 pm. We hope you will join us as we begin learning the music for the new season. We're really a friendly bunch. We know how tough it is to walk into a room full of strangers because we each had to do it ourselves. But give us a few minutes and you'll feel like you've known us a lot longer.
