Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join the Chorus?
Voice placements for our next season begin Thursday, August 25, from 6:30pm - 8pm at All Souls Episcopal Church and continue every Thursday until September 8. We're really a friendly bunch. We know how tough it is to walk into a room full of strangers because we each had to do it ourselves. But give us a few minutes and you'll feel like you've known us a lot longer.

Do I have to audition?
No, you don't, so don't stress out. Our door is always open during the start of each season for new performing members. Reading music or other specific musical abilities are not required, although you will be asked to sing something simple for our Artistic Director, Anthony Cabrera, to make sure you can at least carry a tune, and to determine your vocal range. This is called "voice placement" and we all do it. It also gives you a chance to talk to Anthony and ask questions. If you are a returning member you will still need a voice placement if you haven't sung with the chorus for a few years.
When does the Chorus rehearse?
Rehearsal is scheduled for 7:30pm - 10:00pm every Thursday night during concert season at All Souls Episcopal Church, 4025 Pine Tree Drive, Miami Beach (On the corner of 41st Street and Pine Tree). Close to performances, we may require you to attend extra rehearsals to learn choreography and these rehearsals are not optional.
Do I have to read music?
While many of our members do read music, many do not. We provide recordings of many of your music parts, so that you can learn by listening. These will be provided on CD or by digital download and we encourage you to listen to them over and over. By using the CDs and paying close attention in rehearsals, you should be able to learn all your music. Depending on your musical abilities, the Artistic Director may make specific recommendations about how you can improve your singing or music reading skills. We provide occasional workshops on these subjects, or can help direct you to classes and teachers in the area. We strongly encourage you to learn to read music, and to take private voice lessons. These skills will greatly enhance your experience and enjoyment of singing in the Chorus.
What if I don’t even sing in the shower?
We’re always open and looking, even midseason, for people to become non-performing members or occasional volunteers. So even if you're not a singing member of the chorus, we need you and we welcome you to our organization. To inquire about how you can offer your time and talents to the Chorus please look at the "Non-singing Volunteers" area of the About page.
